Shion to the Crusaders, Saint-Monster Confrontation
Shion ｢紫苑, shion, lit. "Aster tataricus"｣ is the First Secretary of Rimuru Tempest and an executive within the Jura Tempest Federation's upper management. She is counted in the ranks of the Twelve Guardian Lords and Rimuru's Big Four, as well as leading her own personal army. She resides in the capital of Tempest, Rimuru City.

Ogre[]
As an Ogre, Shion had a wild appearance with a thick black horn protruding from the center of her forehead and a small fang like tooth coming out of her mouth, the base of which had skin folded in a way where she appeared to be angry. She had large purple eyes and light purple hair tied into a ponytail, as well as a noticeably curvaceous figure with massive breasts. Her outfit consisted of a brown robe with thick woolen borders and a collar that revealed much of her cleavage. She also wore a necklace with a green stone in the center, between two white stones that looked like teeth, which in turn were also between two other green stones.
In the anime, her skin had a purple tint matching her purple color scheme, as well as a sharp tooth peeking out from the corner of her mouth.
Kijin[]
Similar to the evolution of her brethren, Shion's horn became narrower and she overall lost her vicious appearance in her transition to a Kijin as she no longer has a fang like tooth sticking out. She became a beautiful woman with a slender and voluptuous body, reaching a height of 170 centimeters. Her hair grew much longer, and her skin also lost its purple tint.
She received a custom set of Western formal attire from Shuna; a purple business suit and light green shirt. She leaves the jacket unbuttoned, allowing a generous portion of her cleavage to spill out.
Oni[]
Her appearance as a Kijin didn't change much even after her evolution into an Oni.

Personality[]
Shion appears as a cool, professional beauty at first glance, but is actually very clumsy and simple-minded. Despite her calling herself Rimuru's first secretary, she has no actual secretarial skills and serves as no more than a bodyguard, leaving Shuna to assume the duties of her purported job in her stead. She is strongly passionate about her interests, particularly cooking, and does not grasp the concept of restraint, putting her all into everything she does – be it good or bad – without considering the ramifications of her actions and those she burdens with the aftermath.
Being very emotional and hot-headed is another prominent trait of hers. When she claims to show patience in situations that irritate her, it only means her restraining herself for what amounts to little more than a handful of seconds, earning the exasperation of her master and colleagues. Shion takes pride in all of Rimuru's actions and accomplishments as though they were her own and boldly shows it on her face, yet another strange trait of hers that draws eyebrows from others. She is very competitive, constantly challenging Shuna and her junior secretary, Diablo, for Rimuru's attention.
Since the time she came under Rimuru's wing, she used to be very insecure about her value to him and worried about being abandoned and forgotten. For this reason, she always envied those who were better than her in certain aspects and saw them as rivals. Constantly tormented by these dark emotions, it took several life-to-death experiences and actually dying and being brought back to life, for her way of thinking to turn around. Deeply touched by the actions of Rimuru bringing her back to life, she found that her previous fears were unfounded and learned to believe in herself more. She stopped seeing others as rivals to affirm her own value, instead finding meaning in facing and overcoming her own limits.
After her resurrection, while she still tends to make impulsive decisions and tries to solve things with excessive violence, occasionally an uncharacteristic wisdom of hers shines through. When Dagruel's three sons challenged Rimuru, instead of outright killing them, she tamed them all by herself and turned them into her students, impressing even Rimuru. Her intuition also improved as a result of her deepened connection to Rimuru following her resurrection. She's able to reach the truth behind virtually any matter given enough information due to bits of Rimuru's computational power being shared with her.
Background[]
Shion was originally a survivor of the Ogre tribe, accompanying a small party of six that included the late chief's son and daughter through the forest. While searching for refuge, she came across a masked majin, Rimuru, who she assumed was associated with the perpetrators that engineered the genocide of her people, and immediately attacked him. Contrary to her expectations, she was quickly overpowered and left in awe by his power. The ogre princess, sensing their mistake, mediated between the two parties and brought an end to their conflict. After many twists and turns, Shion was eventually taken in by Rimuru along with her brethren and received a name, becoming his first secretary.
Trivia[]
- In Japanese, 紫苑 (Shion) means Aster tataricus or Tatarinow's aster flower. The flower has a meaning in Hanakotoba, the Japanese language of flowers, which corresponds to "I won't forget you."
